Things
to Do
It is a big land with a big sky, and a big choice
of activities. We have Golf Courses, Swimming Pools, Water Slide,
Ski Rentals, Sailboat Charters, Campgrounds, Parks, Archery Range,
Outfitters, and much, much more. Every season there is something
different.

Boat
Ramps / Marinas
If you need a full service marina to park your million
dollar yacht we can find you one. If you just need a little ramp to
put your fishing boat in the lake has one about every ten miles. |
Commerce/Industry
In this part of North Dakota the small towns are the
hub were the people come for entertainment, socializing, shopping,
and to participate in community events. The towns of Hazen and Beulah
are in the heart of the coal fields, Killdeer's economy is more related
to oil production and ranching. |
Boating
If you like a lot of clean water, fine scenery and
absolutely no crowds, then Lake Sakakawea is your place. Add in the
fine fishing and hundreds of bays to water ski and if your not satisfied
you may as well sell your boat, because you never will be. |
Biking
Off road or on road you are in for a treat biking on
the South Shore. The Ma Daah Hay trail has achieved a national reputation
for the off road bikers. If pavement is your thing you can't beat
our area for scenery and lack of traffic. It's like having giant bike
paths that cars use once in a while. |
Hiking
One of the best ways to experience our area is to
park your car and walk. Along the Missouri you will find trails at
the Cross Ranch and Knife River Indian Villiages. Chances are good
you will see a bald eagle. Farther west you will not want to miss
the hike to the Medicine Hole at Killdeer. For the icing on the cake
be sure to do some hiking in the Badlands at the North Unit, or Little
Missouri State Park. |
Retail/Shopping
Most of your needs can be met somewhere along the South
Shore. In the bigger towns you can find nice grocery stores, and a
variety of the shops and services that can meet all your basic needs.
In the little towns you may not have as many choices but their charm
will make you glad you took the time to stop and see life from a different
perspective. |
Birdwatching
This is where he birds come to vacation, because we
have what they want. Plenty of water, plenty of habitat. Ask any bald
eagle or any of the waterfowl why they prefer North Dakota and you
will find out why you don't see some of them anywhere else. Even the
whooping cranes make it a point to stop here. |
Camping
Somewhere on the South Shore we are bound to have the
camping site you are looking for. Whether you just want a place to
put your tent or you want a full service hookup with phone service
we can find a place for you. Along the lake and in every town there
are places to put you up for the night. Many of the campgrounds have
showers and other amenities that will make your stay a pleasant one. |
Hunting
Habitat is why wildlife makes its home here. Our area
has the habitat for pheasants, geese, ducks, and deer to flourish.
In recent years the state has had to extend the season and up the
limits to countrol our bounty. If you want exotic hunts our area can
provide you with antelope, buffalo, and elk. Even if you don't get
your limit you are going to enjoy being outdoors in this unspoiled
area. |
Fishing
/ Bait & Tackle
Everyone and their grandmother fishes on the lake and
river, so you can find the gear you need just about everywhere along
the lake. |
Canoeing
Pick your river, the Knife, the Little Missouri, or
the Big Missouri, put your boat in and get your camera out. |
Ranch/Trail
Rides
Horseback riding along the Little Missouri is going
to be an experience of a lifetime. That is what brought Teddy Roosevelt
back every summer. If you want to combine it with a ranch vacation,
no problem. |
