Things To See

Attractions
Start with the free flowing Missouri River at Washburn. Go to the vast waters of Lake Sakakawea. Make the transition to the rugged landscape of the Killdeer Mountians, and end up in the Rugged canyons of the North Dakota Badlands.

Historical Sites
Lewis and Clark took their plunge into western history at the Knife River Indian Villiage. Follow the river west to retrace their journey. As you travel you will find numerous little nuggets of history left behind by those who went before us.
Commerce/Industry
Agriculture and lignite coal have powered our economy since the fur trade ended. Visit the mines and power plants to find out first hand how we convert our resources into the necessities of life. We do things on a big scale. This is your chance to see some of the largest equipment of its type in the country.
Birdwatching
From bald eagles to borrowing owls we have habitat that makes a lot of the bird brains happy. Although the pheasants call this home all year, we have a lot of nice summer visitors like the geese, ducks, and other waterfowl that come just for the summer. If you are willing to come in the winter you could see the snowy owls that come down from the arctic. You might be a lucky bird and see the whooping cranes that pass through here twice a year.
