Lewis and Clark spent more time in the Lake Sakakawea South Shore area, than anywhere else on their epic journey. Although they were able to see first hand how Sacagawea lived in what is now the heart of North Dakota, they could not imagine how much more you can enjoy in the same area while you explore the Lewis and Clark Trail. Garrison Dam on the Missouri River has formed Lake Sakakawea, a recreational paradise for bird watching, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and sailing. Spend some time on our site and find out about the places to stay, things to do, and how the friendly people can help you enjoy the history of our area.
